PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a government initiative aimed at providing free electricity to households in India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, the scheme focuses on offering subsidies to households for installing solar panels on their roofs. The goal is to benefit 1 crore households across India. The scheme is expected to save the government approximately ₹75,000 crore annually in electricity costs.

Under the scheme, the Central Government, in collaboration with leading national banks, has simplified the process for customers to access loan facilities at special and attractive interest rates, making it easier for households to adopt solar energy solutions.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen
  • The household must own a residence with a roof structure suitable for the installation of solar panels.
  • A valid and active electricity connection at the property is required.
  • The household should not have previously claimed any government subsidy for solar panel installation under other schemes.

Application Process

Online

Step-1 : Visit the official website (https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in/).

Step-2 : Provide the following details for registration.

  • - Select your State
  • - Select your Electricity Distribution Company
  • - Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
  • - Enter Mobile Number
  • - Enter Email
  • - Please follow as per the direction from the portal.

Step-3 : Login with Consumer Number & Mobile Number.

Step-4 : Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form.

Step-5 : Fill out the online application form.

Step-6 : For financial assistance click on bank loan segment and apply for loan in any of the listed bank on the portal

Step-7 : Feasibility will get auto approval from DISCOM. Please select one of the registered vendors in your DISCOM.

Step-8 : Contact the selected vendor and make the payment to proceed further for Installation and commissioning of the required Solar Power Plant at your residence.

Step-9 : After installation of Solar Power Plant by the vendor, net metering and inspection will be done by DISCOM. They will generate commissioning certificate from the portal.

Step-10 : Once you get the commissioning certificate. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.

Step-11 : Enjoy the benefits and lifetime savings of electricity costs from your Solar Power Plant.

PM-KUSUM Scheme
